We still remember that feeling, though it grows fainter with each passing year. Yet, every now and then, we like to revisit it. There you are, having just read or heard or seen something about social nudity and suddenly, there’s a spark. Curiosity takes hold, and you find yourself wanting to know more. But where do you even begin?
Millions have been in this situation before and there are thousands of places to choose from. But you came to the right place. Just read every 650 or so blog posts on NakedWanderings.com and we’re sure that you’ll get an idea. Or if you don’t have that much time, just read further.
A nude beach in Spain
Nude beaches are by far the number one places where people take off their clothes outside for the first time. Mostly because they are so accessible. You’ll find nude beaches in many places around the world, and they are always free. This lowers the first step enormously because you know that if you don’t like it, you can just walk away.
The reason why we would specifically recommend a nude beach in Spain is because there are just so many. According to the latest statistics we found, there are about 450 known nude beaches in the country and many more rather empty beaches where you can just be naked. In Spain, you don’t really have to worry about authorities either, because it’s completely legal.
A naturist resort in France
The downside of nude beaches is the same as the advantage: They are very accessible. Also for people who may have different reasons for being there. If you prefer your first time to be more private and secure, you better go to a resort, campground or club.
We like recommending France for this, because just like what Spain is to beaches, France is to private nude places. There’s a real abundance of them in all different sizes and shapes. From the small mom-and-pop club to resorts that get thousands of naked guests per day.
If you like the combo of beach and resort, by the way, you may want to get to a place like Bagheera on Corsica. A wonderful resort that is located right next to one of Europe’s longest nude beaches.
A nude village
If you’re one of those big dreamers, who doesn’t just want to experience being clothes-free for a couple of hours or days but rather wants to know what the world would look like if clothes did not exist, there are the naturist villages or nude villages.
The most famous of those is Cap d’Agde in France, where many tens of thousands flock together during the summertime. But we need to mention that in this town, the focus isn’t always on the non-sexual side of social nudity.
If you want to explore that area as well, feel free to do so. But if not, you may want to go to some of the smaller nude villages like Vera Playa or Charco del Palo in Spain.
A European spa center
But what if you discovered this wonderful clothes-free world in let’s say October? You want to be naked outside, but the thermometer says you better not. In that case, there is the European spa culture which is very big in The Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium, but also in other countries.
In fact, this is where we took our own first steps. The reason why these places attract so many first-timers is because the focus is not on being nude. It’s about improving your physical and mental health by spending a lot of time naked in hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms. And it actually works.
A North American hot spring
But what if Europe is too far away from you? No worries, the next items on this list will cover most other parts of the world, starting off with the USA. Hot springs can be found in different states of the… ehm… States and are often by default clothing-optional. We visited one in California once and found it a great experience.
Hot springs tend to be a combination of vibe and nature. Often they are also close to hiking trails, so if you’re a bit active, this is a very recommended combo. Walk yourself in the sweat for several hours and the feeling of then taking off your clothes and jumping into a hot spring will be out of this world. We promise!
Back to your roots in South Africa
Hot springs are an excellent place to be naked in nature. But there is an even better one. Someone told us that visitors to South Africa often feel a certain connection. This is where humanity is born and going there is supposed to feel like going home. We felt something, that’s for sure, but we don’t know whether it was real or because of the stories we’d heard.
What was totally real though, is that going naked in South Africa is awesome! In public places, it’s still illegal, but there are some amazing resorts where you can be naked in pure African nature. And yes, that includes taking an outdoor shower while watching wildlife that you usually only see on Discovery Channel.
A GetNakedAustralia gathering
One of the best things about social nudity is… the social aspect. You may meet people at beaches, in resorts, in spa centres, or in hot springs, but at naked gatherings, it’s all about community. One of the best nude tribes we found during our travels was GetNakedAustralia. We’ll let you guess in which country they operate.
GetNakedAustralia gatherings are like a combination of a family gathering, a party, and an excursion. Except that everyone is naked. Sorry about that mental image of naked family gatherings. They are just really fun and cool events.
If down under is a bit too far away from you, there are nude events to be found around the world. Another organisation we can highly recommend when it comes to nude gatherings is British Naturism. An extra point if you guess their country.
A naturist resort in Thailand
Talking about nude events, another fun one is NATCON in Thailand. And while you’re in Thailand anyway, you may want to check out some of the country’s amazing nude resorts. Social nudity is not a big thing in Asia yet, but it’s changing. Thailand seems to be lightyears ahead though with some magnificent places.
There are about six or seven at the time of writing, but those numbers change quickly. If we need to pick some of our personal favourites, it would be Dragonfly in Pattaya, the largest in the country and owner of a magnificent onsen. And Oriental Beach Village, just north of Phuket, which is located right at Asia’s only nude beach.
An all-inclusive nude resort in the Caribbean
If you’re travelling for your first nude experience, your choice may also depend on your favourite way of vacationing. You may have already chosen a beach in Spain or a campground in France, but if you prefer the all-inclusive experience, you’ll need to head towards the Caribbean.
All-inclusive nude resorts can be found on several Caribbean islands, we haven’t visited them all, but we can recommend Hidden Beach in Mexico. Just be careful with the complimentary drinks, you don’t want to remember your first clothes-free experience as the one where you fell over when getting out of the pool bar, giving the whole resort a full moon. Whether we speak out of experience or not is something we’ll leave in the middle.
At home
After taking you on this flashing tour around the world, we’ll end at what may be the best place of all. Home. The very, very best way to spend your very, very first minutes without clothes is just at home. It’s free, it doesn’t require any time or energy, and you’ll get a first feel of what the rest of your life will look like.
Of course, a lot depends on where you live and who your neighbours are. If you get caught for indecent behaviour, DO NOT mention this blog post. We’re serious, we know a guy who knows a guy. But if you don’t disturb any neighbours and don’t live on the North Pole, home is likely the best place to start. All the previous places will just become bucket list items that will dictate your future travels. You’re welcome.

Another group of interesting videos. It doesn’t bother me that you mention the weather. I wouldn’t want to think that it is always sunny and balmy everywhere you go. I eat a lot simpler than many of the foods that you have, but some look good. It was nice that you gave us a little background about your being together in the ‘honeymoon’ video.
I wrote to you last year about changing my Hipcamp site to clothing optional, and took your advice to make sure it was on the list you mentioned. My first C.O. Customers were actually trying it for the first time also, and gave me some good feed back on issues they noticed, so it was a win win for all of us. I’m hoping the weather cooperates a little more nicely this season. Thanks for the great articles!
That’s great to hear!
