As you may have read in the very first postof this blog, one of the main reasons why we started this project is to show the world that naturists are not some strange dark commune but that actually everyone could be one… Or could enjoy being one if they took the first step.
Our main example of “everyone” is of course ourselves, we write posts about naturism in general but also about our own experiences. But some of you might be thinking “Yes sure, those two are probably just the strange kids in the block…” (nah, we know you’re not thinking that about us, but we’re trying to write an introduction here). So we decided to let other naturists have a word as well.
What you find here will be a series of interviews called The Naturist Talk, which will last as long as we find people who want to talk about their experiences with naturism. We will try to bring you a variety of people, men and women, young and a little bit less young from all over the world who told us what naturism means to them, how they got into it and how it works out for them.
And today we’re giving the mic to Madushan, 23 years young naturist from Sri Lanka. For personal reasons Madushan preferred to remain anonymous, so this isn’t his real name, we tried to make up a name for him, but we don’t really know any Sri Lankan names… So he suggested Madushan himself.
Hello Madushan, tell us something about yourself
I’m a single male software engineering undergraduate. I’m an only child living with my parents who are both past retirement age. When I’m not coding on my laptop or buried head-deep in my course notes late into the night, I love going to watch blockbusters with my friends, dining-out, shopping for tech, watching TV, playing the occasional video-game and just plain chatting with my friends online for hours on end. I’m also a die-hard Potterhead and a huge Game of Thrones nut.
How and at what age did you become a naturist?
I guess that I’ve always hated having to wear any clothes secretly somewhat, but I never really seriously considered the need to someday live nude all the time until I was in my teens I suppose. We have a very hot climate almost throughout the whole year in our country, so clothes are fairly useless if you think about it really. But even though I didn’t like clothes very much, I also didn’t like to expose my skin very much as a kid. I think that was mostly due to my figure, which was a bit thinner than most boys my age and I felt a bit shy without clothes, even around my mom.
I first began to stay shirtless in my room when I was about 13. It began when I was studying by myself, it was just an incredibly hot day and I was sweating like a pig even with the fan working 24/7. A few days after that I just went ahead and took my pants away completely and continued studying as before (my door was closed of course). It felt incredible to be in my own skin by myself doing something so normal like that.. I knew that I’ve finally discovered a sense of freedom that I can really connect with! I rolled around the bed with pure happiness that first time around and even laughed myself out a few times, unable to contain the limitless joy that I felt at that moment!
After that, I started researching a bit on the internet about nudism and what it’s about. I had heard a bit about nudists for some time before, but I had never really understood what it meant to be one or what they were all about. I fell more in love with the lifestyle the more I found out about it because I found out that the values of it were more like a philosophy which mirrored my own beliefs about the world and they served to confirm the sense of freedom I felt when I’m nude. I just started being nude more and more whenever I was by myself, and I’ve never stopped it since. Rather, I’ve found more time to be nude by myself after I got into University, because I need more time to study these days and that means more nude time for me.
Is naturism allowed in your country and what’s the public opinion?
Nudism is completely outlawed in my country and there are no legal public nudist venues available anywhere here. For our people, nudism is something inherently sexual and they don’t like to see it any other way. It’s quite a shame because we used to tolerate nudism much more in our history. Some women used to walk around completely topless in our villages without anyone caring before the 19th century and nudity was always considered as a natural and wholesome thing even within the royalty, and was also very heavily connected to our art and performances throughout our ancient history. It was after the British invasion that things began to change with the people readily adopting the new Victorian moralities. However other problems like misunderstood religious and cultural stigmas too which were slowly yet deeply rooted in our society even before the British invasion have sadly meant that people have come to view nudity as something that is ugly and when it’s needed, to be an extremely personal thing. Even art, like local films, rarely feature any nudity, and even when they do, they always become topics of strong controversy within the society. Which is ridiculous because most men here likes to be shirtless at home or if they are doing some manual labor on a hot day; but they can’t even tolerate to see a woman topless on screen.
It’s just practically impossible to openly identify yourself as a nudist in my society. None of my real-life friends know that I’m a closeted nudist and neither does anyone from my family. I’m forced to practice nudism only in my own privacy and the only way I’m able to identify myself as a nudist is online through nudist sites and discussion forums. I’ve made some nudist friends online over time and being able to chat and have discussions with them about nudism has helped me a lot in my resolve to continue practicing the lifestyle.
We hate to divide people into groups, but we’ll do it anyway…
Do you consider yourself a naturist, a nudist or an occasional nudist?
I like to think of myself more as a nudist than a naturist. Definitely a nudist, yes. Of course I have incredible respect for the naturist philosophy and I love nature very much, but I just find that I don’t connect with naturism very strongly, possibly because I’m not a very spiritual person myself to begin with. I just like to be completely nude whenever I can because I feel the most alive when I don’t feel anything stitched up to my skin and I strongly believe that it’s our natural form of being but that’s it. Unlike when I first started out, I like to always be totally nude now and not jut topless or bottomless. I’d like to be a more fully-fledged nudist than the home nudist that I’m at the moment, but circumstances that I live in just doesn’t allow that to happen.
Do you find it easy to make naturist friends?
Well as I mentioned before, I don’t really get to to meet nudists in the real world because of where I live and because I don’t travel abroad either. But I do have several online nudist friends, but yes, it’s a bit hard to find genuine nudists even then who I can really connect with. Most of the nudists online are middle-aged too, so I sometimes find it a bit hard to connect with them to talk about my interests since they don’t find them very interesting to talk about on their end. I prefer to chat a lot with people around my age group, but I don’t discriminate either, older nudists are great to talk to with their experience and advise, but when it comes to making friends who I can completely relate with, I guess I tend to lean towards people my age more. I’ve found that most young female nudists in particular like to communicate only with other females or couples around their age as well.
What’s the best tip you have for beginning naturists?
Just give it a try in your own space first. Start small, do it in your own privacy, don’t let anyone know until you are fully comfortable with it. Take your top off first while you are relaxing in bed or even working in your study if you can manage it. Take it slow in your own pace and then walk around the house topless or fully nude when you are alone. Do things that you normally do indoors naked: studying, cooking, watching TV etc. Maybe take a quick shower while you are nude and then revel in the joy you feel when you realize that you don’t have to dress back up again! It’ll get perfectly normal over time, trust me. Allow yourself to instinctively forget that you need clothes, it can be topless, bottomless or nude, but over time, you’ll start to realize that you don’t really need them at all (other than when you’re not alone). Try to connect with genuine nudists online and research about the lifestyle as well. The confidence needed comes naturally, you don’t even have to try or fret about it, the key thing is to practice. But don’t worry, once you do it once, you’ll never want to stop doing it!
Anything else you’d like to share with our audience? Being a nudist has a sense of pride on its own. Nudism/ naturism are more than recreational lifestyles, they are philosophies which have deeply insightful views about our society and the way we are all meant to live. But they are also lifestyles at first, and that’s the most fun about it. We are all equal when we are nude, shame and fear about our bodies are all just things and assumptions in our minds because we never try to understand our bodies or what it feels like to be nude. Seeing each other nude makes us see ourselves for who we really are and what we do, and not on what we dress or look like. You begin to see the world and the nature in it in a very different, liberating way once you are nude. The pressures, burdens, anxiety and worries of the textile world are much less when you are a nudist. I should know because I’m quite a reserved and anxious person myself, especially with other people (other than with my friends), so being a nudist really helps me to get away from all that. You can just be your own-self without feeling anyone’s judgement, and that’s the most important thing about nudism for me. The sense of freedom and being at peace with oneself that you feel while you are nude is just indescribably awesome! You always feel much better about yourself and others as a human being when you are nude, the self-confidence about both yourself and your body is just genuinely empowering that it’s almost infectious, and that’s really something that you can’t plain get from anything else. Just always remember, we were all born nude!

As for local places, it has been limited private Villas (with plunge pools) where naturism is enjoyed indoors.
