Koversada Uncovered Naturist Resort in Croatia: Review

We very well remember our first time at Koversada as a place of almost endless paths, beaches, and pitches. It felt like a town that just happened to be largely naked. Needless to say that just like many others, we weren’t all too happy when last year the news dropped that the resort was going to reorganise. And not exactly in our favour.

Koversada announced that as of 2025, it would become a split resort. Partially clothed and partially naked. The “Koversada Uncovered” part would only be one-third of its original size. Local naturist groups protested, and our X account was filled with messages of disappointment. Truth be said, we also wondered if we would ever go back. Shouldn’t we better just stick to our original memories of the historical Koversada Naturist Park?

But we are very curious, and since we were heading towards Croatia anyway, we just couldn’t resist having a peek inside the new Koversada Uncovered. And we’re so happy that we did.

How to get to Koversada Uncovered

Koversada Uncovered is part of Koversada Park Camping Resort in western Istria, right at the entrance to Lim Bay and about 2 kilometres from the town of Vrsar. The setting is classic Istria, with a rocky coastline and long views over the sea and the surrounding islands. Once inside the resort, you’ll find clear signage that points the way to the Uncovered side (or Covered side if that’s where you prefer to stay).

For most international guests, the easiest entry point is Pula Airport, roughly 50 kilometres away, with a transfer of about an hour by car. From there, it is a straightforward drive along the Istrian roads to Vrsar and the campsite. Koversada is also within reasonable driving distance of other Istrian tourist highlights like Poreč and Rovinj, so it fits well into a wider road trip through the region.

Accommodations at Koversada Uncovered

Even after the split, the naked side of Koversada is not exactly tiny. The Uncovered section has around 500 pitches, 100 apartments, and 30 mobile homes, making it still a very sizeable naturist resort by European standards, but the layout feels more human than before. Pitches closer to the water open onto rocky peninsulas and sunbathing areas, while those tucked under the pine trees offer more shade and privacy.

The camping infrastructure has clearly been upgraded. There is more space between many of the pitches than we remember from the old days, and the sanitary blocks are some of the most modern we have seen in Croatia. Hot water, good lighting, proper ventilation, and even background music make them very pleasant places to use, rather than something to rush through. Everything was kept impressively clean during our stay, even at busier times of the day.

For anyone who prefers a bit more comfort, the mobile homes on the Uncovered side are a very attractive option. They are set close to the water, some with terraces that look out over Lim Bay, and come with their own small kitchen, private bathroom, and air conditioning. They are especially convenient for couples or small families who want the full clothes-free experience but enjoy having a proper bed, a fridge full of cold drinks, and a shaded terrace to retreat to in the heat of the afternoon.

The apartments, which also belong to the Uncovered side, are simpler but still comfortable. Some have sea views or look over the greenery towards the bay, and all are within walking distance of the beaches and the main social spots.

Facilities at Koversada Uncovered

The social heart of Koversada Uncovered is Sea Salt, the open-air beach bar and grill right on the shore. Beanbags and loungers are scattered around the terrace, the vibe is relaxed and bohemian, and the menu goes far beyond basic campsite snacks. Fish and chips, burgers, tuna burgers, salads, and cold drinks all come without the need to put clothes on. It is the kind of spot where a quick drink easily turns into an entire afternoon.

What we found particularly interesting was that nudity is completely fine at Sea Salt. This is something you don’t often see at Croatian naturist resorts, and if we remember correctly, this wasn’t the case either in the “old” Koversada.

If you like to ride a boat, the small harbour is also still on the Uncovered side. If you like swimming instead, there’s the long grassy beach at the harbour and the terraced one at Sea Salt. Right in between those is another smaller grassy beach. So the choice is yours. Even if you want more privacy, there’s always a flat rock to be found somewhere along the shore. Thanks to the protection of the bay, the water is typically very flat, which makes it perfect for snorkelling or paddleboarding.

As guests of Koversada Uncovered, you have full access to the other side of the resort, including several more restaurants like the Italian place Feral Trattoria, recently refurbished, that serves a mix of pasta, grilled dishes, and pizza in a very Italian-Croatian style. The legendary Batana restaurant on the island across the bridge specialises in fish platters and slow, scenic dinners as the sun goes down. There are also Kapula Burger bars for quick, casual meals and the Amfora buffet restaurant that works particularly well when we just want to refuel and get back to the beach.

For groceries, we also still had to cover up and go to the supermarket on the Covered side, but that’s about to change. As of 2026, Koversada Uncovered will have its brand new shop, as well as a bakery corner and a deli-restaurant.

Around Koversada Uncovered

During this stay, we hardly felt any urge to leave the park. We were only there for a few days and preferred to soak up the resort as much as possible instead of rushing through nearby towns. We had already spent time in this part of Istria on earlier trips, so this visit became all about slow mornings, long swims, and letting Koversada Uncovered itself be the destination.

That said, the surroundings are worth knowing about. Rovinj is one of the real gems of the Croatian coast, with narrow streets, colourful facades, and a lively waterfront lined with bars that stay busy well into the evening. About an hour’s drive south, Pula is less charming overall, but it has one major showpiece: one of the largest and best-preserved Roman amphitheatres in the world.

The wider Istrian peninsula is full of villages that grow more picturesque the further inland the road winds. Closer to Koversada, Vrsar is the natural point of reference. It is the nearest town and can easily be reached with the little tourist train that passes by the resort, making it a simple outing for an ice cream, a harbour stroll, or a change of scenery before returning to the clothes-free calm of the campsite.

Guests at Koversada Uncovered

The biggest change we felt compared to earlier years was the guest mix on the naturist side. Since the bathing-suit crowd now gravitates to the Covered section, the Uncovered part has become more focused on people who truly value being without clothes. Most guests spend their entire days nude, on the beach, at Sea Salt, and walking around the resort. It creates an atmosphere where being naked is simply the default rather than something that needs to be defended. We know, this may sound strange to say about a resort that just turned partially textile, but that’s really how it feels.

The smaller size of the naturist area also helps with social contact. We kept seeing the same faces at the beach, in the bar, and on the paths, and conversations started easily. There is still plenty of space to be on your own, but the resort feels less anonymous than before.

One thing is certain, although the resort may not be as huge anymore as it once was, we will definitely be guests again.

When to visit Koversada Uncovered

Koversada Resort generally operates from late April to early October, with exact dates varying each year slightly. Like the rest of Istria, the coastal area is at its busiest in July and August, when the Croatian seaside reaches peak season, and the temperatures are at their highest. This is the time when the resort feels most energetic, with full beaches, lively evenings at Sea Salt, and plenty of life on both the Uncovered and Covered sides.

For a more relaxed nude holiday, we would personally choose the shoulder months. Late spring and early summer offer long days, comfortable temperatures, and a softer light over Lim Bay, while September often brings warmer seas.

Your questions answered

Is Koversada closing down for naturists?
We don’t have a crystal ball, but as far as we know, there are no signs that Koversada may completely close down for naturists. On the contrary, when we were there in the summer of 2025, the Uncovered side was fully booked, while there was plenty of space left on the Covered side.

Does it feel spacious to be in the Uncovered section, or is it cramped?
In our experience, it feels more spacious than in the past. This probably has a lot to do with the new design that works with blocks of camping pitches with nature in between them, instead of just one huge camping area.

Is the construction finished now?
There was no construction going on while we were there, but a few new things are still planned, like the shop and the deli. We imagine that they will do this construction during winter, but if it takes longer than expected, this might run through in spring.

Is the nudist area as small as expected?
It’s smaller than the other famous naturist resorts in Istria, but we definitely wouldn’t call it small. It just went from “huge” to “still quite large”.

How is the new Covered part?
The Covered part has gotten quite some upgrades as well. We noticed a lot of new rentals, some new restaurants, and the ruins are gone.

Is there good access to the sea?
Yes, in Croatian standards, meaning that it’s all rocks and stone. There are large plateaus from where you can easily get into the sea and stairs as well. What the Uncovered side is lacking is a sand beach, which you do find on the Covered side.

Is there enough space to sunbathe near the water?
Yes, there are the stone plateaus right next to the water and several grassy lawns where you can lie more comfortably.

How is the passage between Uncovered and Covered?
Basically, the Covered and Uncovered sides are divided by a large wall, so both sides don’t see each other if they don’t want to. There are two or three doors that will take you from one side to the other. No matter which side you’re staying, you always have access to the whole domain.
