When it comes to clothes-free destinations in the Canary Islands, Lanzarote rivals its bigger sister Fuerteventura. The options may not be as plenty and the beaches not as endless, but this northernmost island of the archipelago definitely offers some stunning and welcoming nude beaches, set to a dramatic black volcanic background.
With its unique landscapes, year-round sunshine, and famously relaxed attitude toward nudity, Lanzarote has earned its reputation as one of Europe’s top clothes-free destinations for the winter months, but even in summer it can be a good choice if you want to get away from the overcrowded beaches in mainland Spain.
Let’s take a tour around the island to check out the best places to get naked.
Eastern Coast: Airport Views and a naturist village
Playa Honda
Your naked adventure in Lanzarote might begin before you’ve even left the airport area. Playa Honda offers a unique experience for aviation enthusiasts, thanks to its proximity to the island’s airport. While the planes soaring overhead might not provide the most tranquil soundtrack, there’s something spectacular about watching them from this nearby. Personally, we also love the thought that arriving visitors get their first glimpse of Lanzarote’s nude-friendly culture even before their plane touches ground.
From the main beach parking area, simply follow the coast south along the runway to discover several separate beaches that are popular among naturists. It’s a rather unconventional but memorable way to start your naked holiday.
Charco del Palo
Moving up the eastern coast, we arrive at Charco del Palo, the famous naked town of the Canaries and one of Europe’s most established naturist communities. While the beach itself may not be as sandy as others on the island, the volcanic scenery possesses a unique charm that’s so typical of Lanzarote.
Via stairs, you can easily get into the sea, and small patches of sand make comfortable sunbathing possible. However, this might not be the type of beach where you’d want to spend entire days lounging. What makes Charco del Palo special are the several natural pools, which offer safer and more relaxed swimming conditions than the open waters.
Of course, the real magic of Charco del Palo lies in being part of a completely clothes-free village. The entire community embraces naturism, creating an atmosphere of acceptance and freedom that’s rare to find elsewhere. The village itself deserves its own exploration, with restaurants, accommodations, and shops all operating on naturist principles.
In The North: Caletón Blanco
Heading toward the far north of Lanzarote, near the town of Órzola, you’ll find Caletón Blanco. The cool thing about this beach is its shallow waters that are perfect for long wades away from the shore, at least during high tide. When the tide is low, the beach transforms into an expansive stretch of sand that seems to go on forever.
Caletón Blanco has found its way onto many tourists’ itineraries, which means it can get crowded with clothed visitors on sunny days. If you prefer to enjoy this beautiful location in the nude, we recommend finding a spot on the sides of the beach or within one of the natural windbreakers formed by the landscape.
Truth to be said, when we first visited this beach back in 2022, we found many more naked sunbathers than in early 2025. Maybe we’ve been at an unfortunate moment, but we would recommend visiting on less busy days if you want to comfortably enjoy this beach without bathingsuit.
Western Coast: Endless Sands and Mountain Backdrops
Playa de Famara
At the west coast of Lanzarote, you can find one of the island’s most spectacular beaches: Playa de Famara. This long sandy stretch is set against the backdrop of majestic mountains, creating a scene that perfectly captures Lanzarote’s dramatic beauty.
Although this beach appears in many overviews of nude beaches, don’t expect to find a lot of naked people. It’s mostly the size and solitude of the beach that make it a good spot to spend some time in the nude without too many other people around.
This is also the windier side of the island, making it a fantastic spot for surfers. We imagine that you prefer not to get sandblasted while sunbathing, so we recommend following the weather forecast so you can plan your visit on a less windy day. But if a strong wind does surprise you, it still won’t be a waste of time. The combination of golden sand, rolling waves, towering cliffs, and the views of La Graciosa island makes this one of the most Instagrammable places on the island.

Playa de Janubio
Further south along the western coast, Playa de Janubio comes with its own striking views thanks to the black sands and pebbles. This beach shows Lanzarote’s volcanic heritage in dramatic fashion, though visitors should be aware that the seas can be very rough. Getting into the water here is only recommended for experienced swimmers who can handle challenging conditions.
Despite the potentially challenging sea, Playa de Janubio is a magnificent place to visit. The ancient salt mines behind the beach create fascinating scenery, adding historical and cultural interest to your naked beach day.
Papagayo: The beaches that will put Lanzarote on your bucket list
The southern tip of Lanzarote is home to the island’s most famous nude beaches: the Playas de Papagayo. Contrary to what some visitors expect, this isn’t just one beach but a series of different beaches, each with its own distinct character and appeal. These beaches are the ones from the holiday brochures, with golden sand, crystal-clear waters, and pristine natural surroundings.
Playa Mujeres is the first beach you’ll encounter when arriving from Playa Blanca town, and it’s immediately one of the most popular nude beaches in the area. Nudity is very common throughout this beach, with particularly high concentrations of naturists toward the sides.
Playa del Pozo lies just across the hill and offers a quieter experience. Access is slightly more challenging since there’s no designated parking area and it takes a 15 minute walk to get there. But this limitation also ensures the beach remains peaceful and uncrowded. At Playa del Pozo, you’ll always find space away from others, making it perfect for those who prefer privacy and solitude during their nude beach visits.
Playa de la Cera is a small cove that typically attracts clothed visitors, so it’s not particularly recommended for going nude.
Playa de Papagayo itself, the beach that gives the area its name, has unfortunately become a victim of its own fame. Having become a must-visit spot on the island, it’s typically overcrowded, and the overload of bathing suits does make nude sunbathing feel pretty uncomfortable. Near the beach are two restaurants, making it a good spot for a meal while you’re in the area, but it’s best to pick another beach for nude sunbathing.
Playa Caleta del Congrio rounds out the Papagayo area and returns to being a beach where bathing suits typically come off.
Hidden Gem: Playa de la Arena
Near the small town of Playa Quemada, along the route back toward the airport, lies what’s probably the least known nude beach on the island. At least, we couldn’t find much information about it online, and this beach only got on our radar through an inside tip.
To reach this hidden gem, it’s best to park in Playa Quemada town. From here, walk across the hill for about 15 to 20 minutes, and you’ll discover a secret black sand beach that promises complete isolation from the crowds.
The few people who do make the effort to visit Playa de la Arena are all there for the same reason: to enjoy some time naked on the beach in a rather private setting. When we were here, there were only two other couples, and everyone was naked. So, if you’re seeking serene solitude, this hidden beach definitely deserves a spot on your Lanzarote itinerary.
Thanks to its diverse coastline, Lanzarote offers something for every type of clothes-free beachgoer. From the volcanic coast of Charco del Palo to the naked vibe of the Papagayo beaches and everything in between. If you were still doubting whether you should put the island on your bucket list or not, we hope that by now, you’re convinced.
