When the rest of Europe starts pulling out scarves and jackets, Spain holds onto summer just a little longer. Autumn here feels like a second chance at the naked season. Or a third one… Maybe a fourth.
With golden light, warm breezes, and long afternoons by the sea, it’s easy to forget that summer is already over. There will be indicators though, like fewer crowds, softer air, less chance for a sunburn, and a change in the rhythm of the beaches. Instead of the frenzy of July and August, there is a slower, calmer pulse that makes autumn the perfect moment to explore Spain’s most inviting nude beaches.
Alicante and the Costa Blanca
We’ll start in Alicante, where October tends to feel more like late summer than autumn. The dry air and warm sun keep temperatures in the mid-twenties, perfect for stretching out on warm sand. Playa Los Tossales is the best-known nude beach in the area. It’s an official, signposted stretch where clothes-free sunbathing is the norm. On weekends, it draws a lively mix of locals and visitors, making it one of the most vibrant autumn spots.
For quieter afternoons, Playa El Carabassi offers a slightly different setting. Backed by dunes and stretching seemingly endlessly along the coast, it feels open and natural, with plenty of space to wander naked with in the background only the sound of the sea.
Just minutes from the city, the rocky coves around Cap de l’Horta let us switch easily between urban cafés and naked swims. Few places make it easier to move from a coffee table to a towel on the sand within just a few minutes.
Vera Playa and Cabo de Gata
Heading further south and into Andalusia, the mood shifts in Vera Playa. In summer, this three‑kilometre nude beach can feel cramped, but in autumn, the space opens up. The sand is fine, the sea still holds the warmth of summer, and the promenade remains alive with open bars and restaurants.
The autumn atmosphere in Vera Playa is easygoing, like a clothes-free community where familiar faces return each year and new visitors slip easily into the scene. Many consider autumn the best time to visit Vera Playa, because of the balance of warm weather, fewer crowds, and a more relaxed pace.
From Vera Playa, it’s an easy trip to Cabo de Gata National Park, one of the most naturally beautiful stretches of Spanish coastline. Here, every beach can be considered clothing-optional by default. Punta de los Muertos impresses with its dramatic setting, while Cala del Plomo whispers calm with nothing but wind, waves, and the occasional seabird.
For those who like hiking, Cala de San Pedro rewards the effort of a 5-kilometre trail through the mountains with its hippy atmosphere and hidden camps. And then there are the cinematic beaches of Playa de los Genoveses and Playa de Mónsul, whose volcanic backdrops and golden light make every naked swim feel like a scene in a Hollywood film.
Andalusia’s Hidden Coves
In Andalusia, the Calas de Roche hide beneath tall cliffs. These sheltered coves, like Cala El Frailecillo, Cala El Enebro, and Cala del Pato, are naturally intimate, with echoing waves bouncing off rock walls. The cliffs protect against wind, giving these beaches a reliability in autumn.
It becomes a simple rhythm: finding a cove, spreading out a towel, and letting the tide set the afternoon’s pace. The privacy of these calas makes them some of the most inviting nude options in southern Spain once the heat of summer has passed.
Further down the Andalusian coast, other great options start appearing. Like the amazing beach of Cantarijan near Nerja or Cabopino beach in the Malaga area.
The Balearic charm
Offshore, the Balearic Islands shift into a gentler mood once autumn arrives. Ibiza, known for its nightlife in summer, feels like an entirely different island in October. Es Cavallet remains the island’s classic nude beach, long and sandy with lots of space to find your own spot.
Cala Escondida, marked by its big yellow nudist rock, turns into a calm gathering place once the clubs have shut their doors for the season. Other beaches like Es Figural and Agua Blanca almost feel deserted in autumn, their sand and surf returning to a quieter pace.
Formentera also shines in autumn. Ses Illetes still glimmers with turquoise water and white sand, but it may still be pretty lively. For something quieter, Playa Es Migjorn offers kilometres of open space for naked walks along the tide. In autumn light, Formentera feels both wild and serene, and shows you a certain beauty that you won’t be able to find in summer.
Also on Mallorca and Menorca, the temperatures remain nude-friendly long after autumn has officially started, and a variety of nude beaches will turn the question of whether you will get naked into where you will do so.
Canary Islands: The Endless Summer
Eventually, the mainland will start cooling down as well. But by then, the Canary Islands are actually entering their top clothes-free season. Because these islands are located closer to Africa than to Spain, autumn here feels a lot like summer elsewhere.
On Gran Canaria, the Maspalomas dunes stretch endlessly, their nude zone attracting a steady, international crowd. Walking barefoot across warm dunes before dipping into the Atlantic is a ritual that belongs to every season.
Tenerife has its own gem at Diego Hernandez, a large sandy cove with a youthful, bohemian vibe where guitar music often drifts into the evening.
On Lanzarote, the Papagayo beaches feel carved out of the island’s volcanic landscape, and make nudity feel completely at home against the natural backdrop. You get a choice of beach here between “still pretty crowded”, “not so crowded anymore”, and “damn, where is everybody?”.
And then there’s Fuerteventura, a paradise of endless sandy stretches. From Costa Calma to Morro Jable in the south, and from El Cotillo to Corralejo in the north, it feels like one continuous invitation to get naked. The fine sand, steady breeze, and generous sunshine make this one of the most rewarding clothes-free destinations in all of Spain.
Your favourite clothes-free autumn spot in Spain
Autumn in Spain is not a farewell to summer, but an extension of it. The beaches remain welcoming, the sea stays warm, and the atmosphere turns calmer and more personal.
This overview is just a glimpse of the offer, and there are many other beaches that didn’t make the list because otherwise we’d be working on this blog post until even autumn has ended. So instead, we’ll leave some space for your input. What’s your favourite autumn getaway in Spain? Is it even in Spain, or do you have another after-summer destination?
