The Ultimate Guide to Nude Beaches of Fuerteventura

When people think of a true clothes-free paradise, chances are high they’re imagining somewhere like Fuerteventura. The island’s expansive white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and laid-back atmosphere make it one of the most nude-friendly places in Europe. Here, you’re not tucked into a tiny designated section, going naked is simply part of the beach culture.

We explored every coast of the island and discovered four regions where naturism truly thrives: Costa Calma, the Southwest Coast, El Cotillo, and Corralejo. Each offers a different kind of experience, but all share the same spirit of openness and freedom.

Costa Calma: Naturist Comfort and Convenience

The southeast of Fuerteventura is where nude beachgoing meets comfort. Costa Calma is home to some of the most accessible and welcoming nude-friendly beaches on the island, perfect if you’re looking for soft sand, crystal-clear water, and a community where nudity is completely normal.

It starts with Playa Esmeralda, a long, golden beach that lives up to its name with its emerald waters. Small dunes offer shelter from the wind, and it’s common to see more people without clothing than with. Just north, Playa Esmeralda Norte is a smaller beach that, during low tide, opens up access to quiet coves ideal for a more private experience.

Further along, Sotavento Beach impresses with scale and beauty. A shallow lagoon forms at low tide, making this one of the most visually striking beaches on the island. It’s popular with windsurfers, but there’s more than enough space to find peace and quiet in the nude.

Then comes Playa Mal Nombre, a calmer beach with shallow, wade-friendly waters and even a beach bar. The beaches of Esquinzo and Butihondo continue the naturist-friendly trend, nudity is welcomed across the stretch, though more concentrated in certain areas. Eventually, the coastline leads to Playa de Jandía, where you can walk nude all the way to Morro Jable.

If you’re planning to spend the day in Costa Calma, keep these tips in mind:
💡 Most beaches have facilities near the main entrances, but bring your own toilet paper.
💡 Renting a lounger? No problem, nudity is totally fine here too.
💡 Wind shelters made from stones fill up quickly. Arrive early if you want one.
💡 You can hike the full stretch from Costa Calma to Morro Jable clothes-free, one of the longest nude beach walks in Europe.
💡 BHH Naturist Resort is located just minutes from the coast and offers a convenient clothes-free retreat.

Southwest Coast – Wild, Remote, and Rewarding

If Costa Calma feels easy and comfortable, the southwest coast offers something much more rugged. It’s quieter, less developed, and absolutely beautiful in a raw and untamed way. The beaches here don’t come with facilities or bars, but they do come with a sense of solitude and freedom that’s hard to beat.

The first beach we visited in this region was Playa del Viejo Reyes, just outside La Pared. It’s backed by dramatic cliffs and stretches far into the distance. The southern end is popular among those without bathing suits, and while there are no services here, the natural setting makes up for it tenfold.

Not far away is Playa de Ugán, a rocky and pebbly beach with high cliffs offering excellent protection from the wind. It’s not postcard-pretty, but it’s quiet, intimate, and a great place for undisturbed nude relaxation.

Further north, Playa de Ajuy stands out with its striking black sand, a reminder of the island’s volcanic roots. The main part of the beach is usually clothed, but at the edges, especially away from the village, nudity becomes more common. It’s not the easiest place to go nude, but if you’re looking for variety, it’s worth the stop.

And then there’s Cofete, an unforgettable beach at the very edge of the island. It takes a rough 20 km dirt road to get there, but once you arrive, the reward is enormous. Endless sand, towering cliffs, and crashing waves, it’s wild freedom at its finest. No services, no crowds, just space. A short walk from the parking area can lead you to your own personal paradise.

El Cotillo: Surfers and Naturists Share the Coast

Up along the west coast, the town of El Cotillo brings a more laid-back, surfer vibe to the naturist experience. It’s a great area for exploration, with several beaches that welcome nude visitors.

South of town, Playa de Esquinzo (not to be confused with the one near Costa Calma) is a quiet cove that’s perfect for nude sunbathing. It’s small, relaxed, and rarely crowded.

A little further up is Playa de la Escalera, or Eagle Beach, accessed by a steep staircase cut into the cliff. This golden-sand beach feels totally secluded and is often enjoyed by nude visitors, but beware of high tide, when the sandy part of the beach can disappear completely.

Piedra Playa is the largest and most accessible beach near town. Stretching for over 1.5 kilometres, it draws both surfers and naturists. The further you walk, the more peaceful it gets, and it’s easy to find a spot where you can relax without clothes in complete comfort.

What really makes this area special, though, is what lies north of El Cotillo. From the town beach past La Concha and toward the lighthouse, the coastline transforms into a playground of tidal pools, small coves, and stretches of sand. This mix of textures and landscapes feels like nature designed it specifically for naked exploration. Nudity is common, and the atmosphere is effortlessly relaxed.

Corralejo – Dunes, Desert, and Wide-Open Freedom

Fuerteventura’s clothes-free journey ends at one of its most iconic spots: the dunes of Corralejo. Just south of the town lies a massive coastal nature reserve where white sand meets electric blue water. It’s a surreal, almost desert-like landscape with one major perk, nudity is welcome almost everywhere.

The only exceptions are the areas directly in front of the two large Riu hotels. Otherwise, the entire stretch is clothing-optional, and you’ll find plenty of dune shelters where you can settle in. Even on the busiest days, a short walk guarantees personal space.

Corralejo perfectly captures what makes Fuerteventura so special. You’re free to roam, free to be yourself, and free to enjoy nature the way it was meant to be enjoyed, naturally.

Fuerteventura isn’t just a place with a few nude beaches, it’s a place where being naked feels like a natural part of life. Whether you’re hiking a 10-kilometre beach naked, soaking in a tidal pool on the west coast, or exploring black sand coves in the south, this island offers one of the most liberating clothes-free experiences in Europe.

If you’re looking for freedom, variety, and beauty, all without the need to get dressed, Fuerteventura is calling.
